Objectives : Resilience is the ability to maintain mental health in spite of adversity, and it is suggested that people with high resilience may have a strength in recognizing and evaluating other people's emotions positively. The purpose of this study is to explore the association between the ability to evaluate morphed facial expressions positively and resilience.
Methods : The experiment for facial expressions evaluation using morphed software was conducted on 50 normal population living in Yong-in city, Gyeonggi-do. Participants were forced to choose whether the morphed facial expressions are positive or negative without time limitation. And then, resilience, positive emotion and negative emotion scale were confirmed by self-report questionnaire. The data of this study was analyzed by Pearson's correlation test.
Results : The number of responding positively to the morphed emotional stimulus showed a significant positive correlation with the resilience (r=0.331, p<0.05). In addition, the number of positive response showed a significant positive correlation with PANAS (Positive) (r=0.365, p<0.05), but a significant correlation with PANAS (Negative) did not appear (r=-0.032, ns.).
Conclusion : In this study, we confirmed that the positively information processing and evaluation about morphed facial expressions is related to resilience. This results suggested the clinical value of positive information processing abilities to improve resilience.
